Your Harvey Botox Team
At Southern Dental Care, we occasionally step out of our role as dental service providers and offer something a little different. Among other things, we’re proud to offer Harvey BOTOX treatments because we know that BOTOX does more than minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging. It has a myriad of health benefits as well.
Is BOTOX Right for You?
During your initial consultation with our dentist, Dr. Lacey Andreotta, we’ll see if you’re eligible for the treatment by going over your medical history. For example, if you have a breathing disorder, heart disease, or bleeding problems, we can’t recommend BOTOX because it will lead to harmful side effects. It would also be a mistake for mothers who are breastfeeding or pregnant to consider it. Others may have allergies to one of the ingredients in BOTOX.
The target age is between 40 and 60 years old, though you’ll see below how BOTOX can target medical certain conditions in younger people. Seniors should proceed with caution because BOTOX may bruise their skin.
How BOTOX Works
BOTOX injections contain a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin, which is known to cause botulism when taken in large doses. However, we know what amount to administer and where. You’ve probably heard stories where people became unable to speak properly after a BOTOX treatment around their lips, but with us, you don’t have to worry about similar things happening with you. We’ll never let the neurotoxin spread to those areas of the body that we didn’t mean to treat.
The botulinum toxin is injected directly into the muscles to prevent nerve signals from reaching them. Without any nerve signals, the muscles don’t contract and are, in effect, paralyzed. With the paralysis comes the relaxation of the skin above it, resulting in fewer wrinkles and an all-around more youthful appearance. It’s ideal for:
- Forehead furrows
- Frown lines
- Crow’s feet
- Asymmetric smiles
- Wrinkles around the lips
- Wrinkles around the neck
What Are the Benefits?
BOTOX is minimally invasive, relatively painless – most patients feel nothing but a pinprick – and quick to administer. The average treatment takes only one hour, and results appear usually three to four days later and last up to three or four months. Unlike other cosmetic procedures like chemical peels and collagen injections, there are no adverse effects associated with BOTOX. It’s also rare for patients to develop a resistance to the neurotoxin. This means that we won’t have to increase the dosage in subsequent sessions.
When it comes to the medical benefits of BOTOX, the most widely cited is its ability to soothe dystonia, a condition where the neck twists uncontrollably, as well as generally stiff necks. It can also remedy crossed eyes and address all the side effects associated with it, such as double vision and poor depth perception. Those with lazy eye or eyelid spasms that cause them to blink excessively can also benefit from BOTOX.
BOTOX is good at preventing chronic migraines, so if you have 15 or more migraines a month, it might be worthwhile. It’s not as effective for those with episodic migraines, though, and it must be kept in mind that BOTOX does not eliminate the condition.
Patients with an overactive bladder can also find relief after BOTOX. If you think you suffer from excessive sweating and antiperspirants have failed to treat it, come to us because we can perform injections in your underarms.
