Woodmere Botox & Dental Specialists
For a dental clinic that can give the residents of Woodmere BOTOX treatments, all you have to do is take a short drive to Marrero and stop at Southern Dental Care. Once we’ve taken care of any dental needs, we can discuss the cosmetic and medical benefits of BOTOX. Our dentists will first see if you’re eligible for BOTOX.
The Preliminary Stage
Though the target age for BOTOX is between 40 and 60 years old, we can make exceptions for those who are in their 30s and just beginning to see wrinkles; we can even use this procedure to treat certain medical conditions in younger people. However, seniors may not want to consider BOTOX because it’s known to bruise their skin. Also, some wrinkles in the elderly may not be affected by the BOTOX and will probably require fillers or surgery to be smoothed out.
BOTOX can also lead to harmful side effects in those with breathing disorders, bleeding trouble, and heart disease. If you have a skin disorder surrounding the area that you want to be treated, you may not be able to qualify. Also, expectant mothers, as well as those currently breast-feeding, cannot qualify. One thing we’ll do during this preliminary stage is to make sure you have no allergies to the ingredients in BOTOX.
The BOTOX Process
BOTOX injections are made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. What our dentist will do is inject a small dose of this directly into the facial muscles below the target areas; the toxin blocks nerve signals from reaching the muscle receptors and telling them to contract, resulting in a relaxation of the muscles and, with it, a smoothing out of wrinkles. BOTOX has been used for over 15 years to address:
- Forehead furrows
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Asymmetric smiles
- Wrinkles around the lips
- Wrinkles around the neck
The process is relatively painless, with the most sensitive areas being usually around the lips and eyes. It’s also minimally invasive; the only danger is that the neurotoxin might spread to an area you didn’t intend to treat, but normally this is due to incompetence.
The average treatment takes only one hour to administer, and within three to four days, you should see results. These results will last between three and four months, at which time you’ll be able to request another treatment. Though it depends on each person, we might have to up the dosage to maintain the results.

The Medical Benefits
There are various medical conditions that BOTOX can alleviate, the most prominent being dystonia, a chronic muscle spasm. Dystonia usually affects the jaw, neck, or vocal cords and is characterized by stiffness and uncontrollable twisting of the affected area. Dystonia of the wrist is another form; it’s more familiar to us as writer’s cramp.
It can also treat crossed eyes and, with it, effects like double vision and poor depth perception. Lazy eye can also be temporarily treated, though, for this, it may be better to get a permanent solution via muscle surgery. BOTOX can also relieve blepharospasm, or twitching of the eyelids, in both young and old.
We just want to mention three more miscellaneous conditions that BOTOX can treat. The first is chronic migraines; this means that those who suffer 15 or more migraines a month can find relief. Anything below 15 is considered episodic and won’t be affected as much. The second is excessive sweating, especially in the underarms. The third is an overactive bladder.
