Looking for a Marrero Partial Denture Dentist?

At Southern Dental Care, we have a strong focus on restorative dentistry, and one of our most frequently requested services is Marrero partial denture dentist installation. Everyone from seniors with decaying teeth to younger patients with knocked out teeth can consider partial dentures. These dentures come in two options: removable and fixed. Fixed partial dentures also go by the name of bridges. Let us help you determine which would be right for you.

It’s important to act fast when you have missing or knocked out teeth because the surrounding teeth will begin to drift into that gap, changing your bite and possibly causing temporomandibular disorders. Missing teeth can also cause your face to sag. In addition, you’ll start to experience bone loss in your gums, making it harder for anything to be installed over them.

Removable Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures consist of a row of artificial teeth on an acrylic – or metal and acrylic – base. The base is custom-made to match the color of the patient’s gums and is clipped onto the surrounding natural teeth for support. At our office, you have a choice as to what material you want the teeth made of. We offer gold, silver, alloys, porcelain, and a combination of these.

Once we’ve fitted you with a removable denture, we’ll ask you to come back for check-ups so we can look for any pressure points that need to be addressed. At first, the dentures may feel bulky, but you’ll get used to them eventually. Regarding your diet, you should start off by avoiding hard or sticky foods and chew on both sides.

Cleaning your dentures will be your only maintenance task; just rinse off any food particles, brush the surface, and keep it in a cleansing solution overnight so that it doesn’t dry out. You should never wear your dentures to bed because they’ll push up against the gums and accelerate bone loss; they’ll also increase the risk for gum disease.

Removable partial dentures are delicate products, but we’re always available in case the base or one of the teeth breaks. In the future, we’ll also have to perform relining, where we adjust the dentures to your changing jaw ridge.

Fixed Partial Dentures

Dental bridges, or fixed partial dentures, are slightly more complicated than removable dentures. They consist of a row of replacement teeth – again, you have a choice between gold, silver, and porcelain, among other materials – flanked on both sides by dental crowns that go on top of the surrounding teeth. These crowns are called abutment teeth. To get the abutment teeth in there, we may have to grind away some of the enamel from the real teeth.

Bridges are permanently attached to the gums either through dental bonding or through dental implants, thus feeling more like real teeth, but they can only be removed through surgery. Cleaning them can be a little more difficult since you must also clean underneath the artificial teeth, but we’ll give you advice moving forward. Fixed dentures last longer than removable dentures and are more aesthetically pleasing since there are no metal clasps to be seen, but they do cost more. Removable dentures are preferable if you’re at a risk for more tooth loss.

Precision Attachments

If you want to go with removable partial dentures but you don’t like the inconvenience of metal clasps, consider precision and semi-precision attachments. These use mechanical components that interlock and blend in with the natural teeth. Though the surrounding teeth may still need to be crowned – which means grinding the enamel – these attachments won’t exert uneven pressure upon them, and their rigidity makes them more durable.
